'Our Crafty Home: Bathroom Makeover'

This has nothing to do with my business at all. Well maybe, it shows that my husband and I have a good eye for design, which I mean, we did spend 4 years earning a bachelors degree from a well known design school.
As probably 90.25 % of you all know that John and I recently relocated to Cincinnati, OH from Austin, TX and bought an adorable house here. One of my favorite things to do with the places we live in are to make it 'ours' so to speak. I like to go from room to room, picking out colors, pondering of themes, etc. My plan is to take you through our new home, and show all the crafty things we added to make it our own and give YOU a little inspiration along the way.
This post: The BATHROOM #1
Why did we start with this room? Probably because it was the smallest to be honest.
AND..(drum roll please) What it looks like NOW!

I'll let you in on some of my secrets: it cost us about $200 to remodel the bathroom. The curtains were once one long panel, which I cut in half and did some sewing magic on. The shelves are from one of my favorite stores, Ikea. Also from Ikea is the brown candle, brown vase which holds hair ties and the white textured vase which holds twigs and random little fake things. We wanted a contemporary feel with neutral, earthy colors.

Our house is from the early 1950's and keeping little elements like the built in mini-soap holders and ultra small toothbrush holder remind me of the charm this place has.

Yep, you even get a picture of the floor. I had a hard time finding a rug to go around the sink, until I thought about it and purchased a rug from Bed, Bath & Beyond that normally is supposed to fit around the toilet. I choose dark brown to bring together the brown in the twigs, curtains and the ceiling. Below is a picture of the contrasting brown ceiling section.

And lastly, my favorite part, which I completely give John credit for, this awesome wall decor as you first walk in. The white cube was once a floating wall shelf, I think from the company he works for? So his idea was to drill a hole in the floating white cube and add something to it, which just happened to be the extra twigs I had from the other decor item I put together. I loved the idea when he told me about it. It's a one of a kind coming from the Fennos'.

  1. Wow -- it looks really great! I can't believe you got those shelves from IKEA. Why is it when IKEA stuff comes home to my house it still looks like it came from IKEA? (smile)

  5. Thanks for the compliments everyone! I have more rooms in the house to show, it's just a matter of finishing them to where I am satisfied. ;)
