DIY: Make a Personalized Spring Wreath

Add a twist to your traditional spring wreath with by adding your house numbers. This personalized wreath will definitely add a little flair to your front door, but would also be a great gift. (Mother’s Day is about 2 months away if you really want to be ahead of the game!)
If you are fearful of the idea of having to arrange the flowers and don’t think you can do it, fear not! This is one of the easiest ways to create your own wreath with little or no floral design experience. I promise!
Supplies:
  • Grapevine Wreath: $3.60 ( I used the 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby)
  • Bushel of flowers and leaves: I found my flowers at Hobby Lobby for 50% off last week, making them $5.00 for the entire bushel.  The nice thing about buying a bushel is that there is a LOT of options, and you don’t have to worry about picking out individual stems and trying to coordinate flowers.
  • Wooden Numbers: I also picked these up at Hobby Lobby and for $.99 each!
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Glue Sticks
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Wire Cutter
  • Wax Paper
First, cut all the stems off the bushel. This way, you know what you have and can separate them by size or color.
The trick to arranging the flowers on the wreath: Use the biggest flowers first. Then, add the smaller flowers and then lastly add the leaves to fill in any bare spots. Before you start placing the flowers on the wreath, cut down the stems to where they are only about 2″ in length. This way, they stick right down into the wreath and help keep the flowers in place.
I only added the flowers to one side of the wreath, so I had room to add my house numbers on the other side.
Tip: Lay out all of your flowers on the wreath first, then glue them down.
Once the flowers are glued in place, add the leaves or foliage from the bushel. As mentioned before, fill in any bare spots on the wreath.
Next, paint the wooden numbers using regular acrylic paint. I chose a pale yellow to compliment the yellow flowers in my wreath, but of course, you can choose any color under the rainbow! I painted over wax paper to avoid getting paint everywhere.
Last step! Arrange the painted numbers on the wreath, then apply a generous amount of hot glue to the back of each number and adhere it to the wreath.
I am pretty happy with this wreath! It adds a little spring flair to our otherwise boring white front door and it was really easy to create.
